Trinity Worship Choir - Night Before Christmas
Trinity Worship Choir - Night Before Christmas
Twas the Christmas Eve Service at Trinity church,
We choir members stood in our new fangled perch,
The mics that were hung from the ceiling prevented,
Our song being drowned out by the organ we rented.
The band was all laid back and looking well fed,
With fat chords and 1-2-3-4 in their heads;
And the tenors in olive the basses in plum,
Thought the service might be a little hum-drum.
When out in the hall there arose such a din,
Even the drummer perked up his chin
Away to the edge of the platform we flew,
To see what could possibly be the todo.
The audience awaited the surprise with us too,
wondering at all of the hullabaloo
When, what to our wondering eyes should appear,
But our leader, Sean Keith, in his best Christmas Cheer.
His eyes were a twinkle with Christmas delight,
and that look that makes Pastor Les face go white.
He strode onto the platform with his guitar,
And proceeded to do something rather bizaare.
"Now Tenors and Basses, altos and sopranoes,"
He said to us all as he neared the piano.
"That part where the music drops out or goes low,
Needs more volume and energy to make it go."
"Can you give me more volume?" was his earnest appeal,
"and one more thing", said he just to seal the deal.
"The ending of this one is going quite well
But the one thing it needs is a bit more cowbell."
Then he merrily laughed, he fair shook with delight,
and his hair sort of stood up straight in a spike.
His ear ring it quivered and so did his thumb,
We even all thought he might swallow his gum.
Then laying his pick to the side of his nose
(showing poetry's always more dangerous than prose)
He started the intro by waving his hand.
He counted to 3 and then brought in the band.
He spoke not one word, but wound up like a top,
any more energy and we thought he would pop.
And just like a bull he backed up a few paces
We knew we would soon be off to the races.
Right on queu he took off and charged right at us,
With a force that compared to an oncoming bus.
Both his arm and his body came down with a bound
And of course we responded with magnificent sound.
At the end of the song he looked rather elated
and we thought we might have to have him sedated.
But we heard him exclaim as we left through the rear
"Hey, maybe we should do this one again next year!"
